AI will be a big part of the DoD's big data effort
Best listening experience is on Chrome, Firefox or Safari. The Defense Department's data strategy released just a few weeks ago says improving data management will help it fight and win wars. It says artificial intelligence will become an important component of data-fueled digital modernization. For an assessment, the CEO of data analysis company Govini, Tara Murphy Dougherty joined Federal Drive with Tom Temin. IRS procurement shop sees RPA as key to handle growing year-end workload with shrinking workforce
Best listening experience is on Chrome, Firefox or Safari. Less repetitive work for the federal workforce sounds like an easy sell, but agencies still have a long road ahead of them when it comes to getting robotic process automation off the ground. Agencies took a major step forward on Tuesday, however, when the governmentwide RPA Community of Practice held its first industry day to gather feedback from vendors and government partners. Agencies who have already taken the plunge on RPA have seen positive results. The IRS, for example, expects to save more than 18,000 work hours through pilots launched in its procurement office, and faced with a growing workload at the end of each fiscal year, the IRS is looking at RPA tools to help with the heavy lifting.

Federal CIO Kent: AI pushes need to retrain 'broader swath' of federal employees Federal News Network
Best listening experience is on Chrome, Firefox or Safari. Agencies have gotten buy-in from their employees when it comes to automating rote tasks liked data entry. But it's a tougher sell to those employees -- and the public -- to trust artificial intelligence tools for data-driven decision-making. Some agencies, including the General Services Administration, IRS and Defense Logistics Agency expect to save tens of thousands of work hours through robotic process automation-powered bots for back-office functions. There's also room for automation grow, according to research from the Partnership for Public Service and IBM's Center for the Business of Government.
